BE KIND · USE AN ALIAS · NEVER SHARE PERSONAL DETAILS
SHARDS

The rules (draft)

DRAFT. Not in force yet: there are no accounts yet, and a lawyer has not reviewed this. It is written so a 13-year-old can follow it.

The rules in one minute

  1. Be kind. Everyone here is a person. This is a family-friendly game for all ages.
  2. One alias only. Never share your real name, age, school, address, phone, email or photos, and never share anyone else's.
  3. No politics and no pushing religion. Do not cram things down people's throats.
  4. Only post what is yours. If you send music, pictures or words, you must own them or have the right to share them.
  5. Do not cheat, hack or spam. Do not try to break the game or the sites, or to get into things that are not yours.
  6. We may remove things or accounts that break these rules, and we will try to tell you why.
  7. It is a work in progress. The game is an alpha: it can change, break or go away, and it is free as it stands.
  8. Ask us anything. Use the megaphone or the feedback form.

What you give us, in plain words

If you send us music or ideas, you stay the owner. You let the creator use what you sent in the game and on the sites, anywhere in the world, for free, and you can ask to have it removed. You will not be paid unless we agree that in writing first.

Legal text (draft, for review by a lawyer in each country)

1. Parties. These terms are between the user and the operator of the service, [operator name and contact to be inserted] (the "Operator"). 2. Eligibility. Users under the age of digital consent in their country (for example 13 in the UK, 16 in some EU states) must have a parent or guardian's permission. 3. Licence. You grant the Operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable licence to host, reproduce, adapt and display content you submit, solely to operate and promote the service, which continues until the content is removed, save for backups and content already shared. 4. Warranties. You warrant that you own or are licensed to submit the content and that it does not infringe any third party's rights. 5. Acceptable use. You shall not submit unlawful, infringing, hateful, harassing or misleading content, or personal data of others. 6. Termination. The Operator may suspend or remove content or accounts for breach. 7. Disclaimer. The service is provided "as is" and "as available" and, to the extent permitted by law, the Operator excludes implied warranties; nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law; consumers keep their statutory rights. 8. Limitation. Subject to 7, the Operator's aggregate liability is limited to the amount (if any) paid by the user in the preceding twelve months. 9. Governing law. English law governs, without depriving a consumer of the mandatory protections of the law of the country where they live; disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales or, for consumers, the courts of their home country. 10. Changes. The Operator may amend these terms with reasonable notice.
