Credits
Everyone who deserves a credit is on this page. Right now that is Travesty, and the creators of the technology this game stands on. Nobody else has helped, because it was made by one person (with dre.darch, an AI persona, explained below). If you think you belong here, tell us.
Music: Travesty
The soundtrack is by Travesty: Frith (Dave Frith), Dastardos (Dave May), Phil May.
- El Topo: An early alias of Travesty, from around 15 to 17 years ago. Tracks by Phil May.
- Precursor: An alias that pre-dates the name Travesty, from around 15 years ago, running in parallel with El Topo. SoundCloud may call it "The Precursor".
Tracks in the game: Alacrity (El Topo), Grubstep (El Topo), Spook (Precursor), Stretchy (Precursor), Spindle 2 (Precursor), Motion Sickness (Precursor). Thank you for the music, and for saying yes.
Inspiration (nothing used)
- Orbital: The band Orbital (Phil and Paul Hartnoll) inspired the hour-long Live set Easter egg: its improvised, hardware-feeling, euphoric sets. Nothing of theirs is used: every pattern in the game is original. This is an homage.
Technology and the people behind it
- TypeScript (Microsoft; Anders Hejlsberg is the lead architect): The language the game is written in.
- JavaScript and the web (Brendan Eich (JavaScript), Tim Berners-Lee (the World Wide Web)): Everything runs in your browser because of them.
- Vite (Evan You and contributors): Builds the game.
- Vitest and Playwright (Anthony Fu and the Vitest team; Microsoft): Test the game, including on a phone-sized screen, before anything ships.
- Git (Linus Torvalds and contributors): Keeps every change.
- The Web Audio API and Canvas (The W3C and WHATWG standards communities; documented by MDN): All the synthesized sound, the hour-long Live set and the drawing.
- The Fast Fourier Transform (James Cooley and John Tukey (1965)): How the visualizer turns sound into something it can draw.
- The A* search algorithm (Peter Hart, Nils Nilsson and Bertram Raphael (1968)): How units find their way across the hex grid.
- WebRTC (The WebRTC project and standards community): The peer-to-peer connection in the Lab.
- Cloudflare Workers and R2 (Cloudflare): Host the sites and the music files.
- SoundCloud and Spotify embeds (SoundCloud; Spotify): Let you hear the artists, loaded only when you press play.
- Wikipedia and MDN (Their volunteer writers): Where many of the facts and explanations were checked.
